Sound
Welcome to the the “Sound” quotient of “Sound & Vision“.
Saam has dedicated most of his life to the pursuit of all things musical, whether that be as an engineer, a producer, a songwriter or a composer. He studied classical piano from the age of 6 and guitar from the age of 10. He graduated with an honours degree at the prestigious Tonmeister Music and Sound Recording course in Surrey, England.
As a 15 year old he worked as a runner and tea boy at Abbey Road Studios on orchestral sessions both at the studio and with their mobile recording team. As a grown adult he has engineered at many of the finest studios in the business including Townhouse Studios, Lansdowne Studios, Abbey Road in the UK through to Revolution Recording, Noble Street and Blue Rodeo’s Woodshed Studio in Canada to the legendary Sun Studio in Memphis.
He has worked on countless records over the years in all capacities and his work has garnered a number of awards including a Juno for Tomi Swick‘s album Stalled Out In The Doorway for Warner Records.
When producing a band, Saam likes to capture the energy of a band’s live performance. He loves recording live off the floor where possible so that everyone is taking part in the process of making the record. He loves to help shape the song with the band, aiding in their arrangements and parts to presenting different and alternatives methods of recording to evoke an emotional response in the listener. He likes to commit in the studio when recording as oppose to following the “fix it in the mix” school of production and engineering.
He has worked with jazz acts such as Michael Kaeshammer, reggae with Sly and Robbie, hip hop with Ludacris, remixing for Snoop Dogg, indie rock with The Kooks, country and roots with the Skydiggers, and soul with the likes of Jarvis Church and the Julian Taylor Band.
